I worked the island Lavender Festival last weekend, which was a welcome respite from long days of commuting off-island to the nursing home. Beautiful weather, a gorgeous “purple haze,” selling artwork and hanging out with friends and neighbors . . . all balm to my spirit.
This week I’ve had meetings upon meetings with social workers and medical professionals, and today I will visit several assisted living facilities in town to choose one for my dad to live in after he is released from the nursing home. It’s difficult to make these kind of decisions for a parent; it doesn’t seem natural, somehow. At the end of their lives, we care for them the way they cared for us when we were small.
