Sometimes the best of island life is going to the cafe for dinner with your sweetie after a long day of work and meetings — and ending up having a dozen different conversations with neighbors and friends, and friends of neighbors and neighbors of friends . . . playing musical chairs as one table morphs into another, exchanging hugs and handshakes as some leave and others arrive . . . admiring this tan fresh from Hawaii and that shell necklace just in from Baja . . . children squealing, plates rattling, beer and wine glasses lifted high, watching the ferry go back and forth in the soft blue twilight . . . the best of island life.
