In honor of Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Day: the Gaian Justice card.
The river in the background refers to the lines from the Book of Amos so famously quoted by Martin Luther King:
“Let justice flow like a river and righteousness [right action] like an ever-flowing stream.”
The Justice card asks us to consider the consequences of our actions with each choice that we make.
And today, we heard from President Barack Obama:
“For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers, & daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts. Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers & sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well… That is our generation’s task.”
And:
“We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms. The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition; we must lead it.”
May it be so.
May justice flow like a river, and right action like an ever-flowing stream.

JoAnna, the men in your cards are always so open and there is such a powerful aura of kindness and energy surrounding them. I don’t know if it’s the cards or the men you chose to paint in them, but they make male energy in a world often filled with patriarchy, a place of possibilities. Thank you for creating this wondrous male energy in your cards!
Deep thanks, Indigene. Part of my vision for the deck was to show strong women and gentle men (as well as gentle women and strong men) . . . hopefully I have succeeded. This particular image is a composite of several different photos, so it’s not one man in particular. I wanted to go against gender type in the Justice card, so it’s a man instead of the Goddess of Justice we often see; and I wanted it to be a person of color, to bring in the theme of social justice (as well as karmic justice, which is how this card is often read). Some people see the Dalai Lama in him, and that’s fine with me. But I like to think there’s a bit of MLK and Obama in him too. Thanks and Blessings.
